Joan Marie Moan

Moan: Joan Marie Moan passed away peacefully at Points West Living on November 22, 2022 at the age of 84 years.
Joan was born in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan on November 17, 1938 to Jim and Ethel Brunton, she was the eldest of three daughters. Her early years were spent on the family farm. She started her schooling at a country school that was two miles away from the farm. In the winter months, she stayed at the teacherage until her sisters were old enough to accompany her to school. Along with her schooling, she learned how to crochet and knit. Eventually the family moved into town. Joan graduated high school in Shellbrook and not too long after married the love of her life John. They were blessed with four children, Dale, Debbie, Craig and Charlene. The family moved to Lloydminster in 1968 and in 1970, Joan started her long nursing career at the Lloydminster Hospital after obtaining her Certified Nursing Assistant training. She later upgraded her schooling and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her career spanned 35 years, 28 of these were on Maternity and her last years were on Emergency before retiring at age 65. In her personal life, she loved her family and cooked many wonderful holiday meals with everyone gathered around. She enjoyed camping and John and her took many trips to B.C., in particular Radium Hot Springs. She was an avid golfer and had many rounds over the years at Silver Lake and Sandy Beach. She loved to crochet and knit and made many afghans for her family. In her later years, she took up cross stitching and a many of her works were given to family as gifts. In the summer, she loved to garden and rarely missed a Blue Jays baseball game and, in the winter, she watched all the curling on TV and always enjoyed her MASH reruns.
Joan will be sadly missed by: her children, Dale (Sandy) Moan, Debbie (Eric) Whitfield, Craig Moan and Charlene (Dean) Martin; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her sisters, Lois (Ed) Waterfield and Louise Marsh; sister-in-law, Sharon Meyer; brother-in-law, Cliff Thompson; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Lexi.
Joan was predeceased by: her husband of 53 years, John; her parents, Jim and Ethel Brunton; brothers-in-law, Roger Marsh and Al Meyer.
The Memorial Service was conducted from McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta on December 10, 2022 with Alison Weaver officiating. The internment was held at the Lloydminster City Cemetery, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan after the service.
The eulogy was read by Ed and Lois Waterfield and the urn bearer was Dale Moan.

The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses at Home Care and the staff and nurses at Points West Living for their compassionate care shown towards Joan throughout her last few years and ultimately her final days. Thanks to Ed and Lois for reading the eulogy and thank you to Alison for the wonderful job at Joan’s service. Thanks to everyone for their cards, flowers and donations. Lastly, thank you to the staff at McCaw's Funeral Service for all their help in administering the arrangements for Joan.
