Lakeland College students will once again be able to use some city facilities thanks to an agreement between the college and the City of Lloydminster.
The facility use agreement between the city and the college was set to expire this year. With this renewal the next five years students will be able to use the Servus Sport Centre and Bioclan Aquatic centre during the school term.
For students in Lloydminster it’s part of the tuition and for students at the Vermilion campus they can now opt in.
Prices that students will have to pay for use of the facilities is listed in the table below:
Academic Year | Amount/student |
2024/2025 | $58 including GST |
2025/2026 | $61 including GST |
2026/2027 | $63 including GST |
2027/2028 | $65.50 including GST |
2028/2029 | $68 including GST |
In addition to the proposed rates, Lakeland College students will have to pay an activation fee of seven dollars plus GST to get an access card each academic year.
During discussion of the use agreement Councillor Michael Diachuk spoke about the need for public transportation at the college.
“I really like this process and program in place, when I was reading through this I immediately thought of transportation, we have a process in place here that would work for us in the event of students wanting to buy a pass on our potential transportation service within our community.”
“I know there’s work to do be done with the college to make this work, I think we need to do some convincing and we need to collaborate, this is really beneficial for the students, I think the transportation plan would be beneficial as well.”
Council had no further discussion regarding the transportation comments.
Council voted in favour of entering into a new five year agreement with the college to continue their facility use agreement.
The new agreement will take effect Sept. 1 2024 and run until the 2028/2029 academic year.
