Lloydminster Council has appointed WLS LLP Chartered Professional Accountants to perform the city’s 2024 audit.
Council’s three-year agreement with WLS for financial audits covered fiscal years 2021 through 2023 with a two-year contract extension option.
“I have appreciated their hard work and the information, as well as administrations work towards that relationship and continuing to both be due diligent in the reporting process and so far it’s been working really good,” says Coun. Jason Whiting.
Coun. Lorelee Marin agreed the city and WLS had built a good relationship.
“Last year when we had the presentation of the audited financial statements I really recognized the strong relationship that had been built and the good working relationship between the auditors and our team,” said Marin.
She also asked if the audit documents had already begun to be pulled for the current fiscal year.
“Yes, we already start to prepare for the audit throughout the year, typically we begin really preparing in the month of November where we normally have our auditors come in and do a preliminary audit at the end of November,” said Adèle Wakaruk, City of Lloydminster executive manager.
Administration made the recommendation to council to exercise the extension for 2024. Future options for the following years would be assessed by the next council.
“Executive manager Wakaruk I appreciate you bringing this forward for 2024 and leaving the next option for 2025 to the new council because they will be receiving that audit,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “I appreciate we’re dealing with today; council today is dealing with today and future council will deal with the remainder.”
Council voted in favour of appointing WLS to perform the 2024 audit.
