The recent donation from the Kitscoty RCMP to local charities is profoundly impacting, especially with winter approaching.
Kitscoty RCMP’s Const. Jordan O’Quinn explained the motivation behind contributing to the charities.
“They do a lot for us in supporting individuals coming through our area,” stated O’Quinn. “We know they provide a huge service to many people in Lloydminster and the surrounding area.”
The RCMP donated winter essentials like jackets, snow pants, hoodies, and clothing suitable for job interviews or court appearances. They chose to donate to the men’s shelter, the SPARK Foundations women’s shelter and the Interval Store. Additionally, this gesture helps the RCMP give back to spaces supporting residents from the area.
Kagan Kneen, CEO of the Lloydminster Men’s Shelter, expressed deep gratitude for the donation. He noted its immediate benefits for clients preparing for winter.
“The winter jackets are huge, especially getting into the winter season,” said Kneen.
He emphasized how critical these items are as temperatures drop. The donation includes professional attire that will boost clients’ confidence in employment settings, beyond just winter clothing.
“This is now allowing them to dress professionally and have that confidence to go into those interviews,” Kneen added.
From the perspective of the SPARK Foundation, they appreciate any donation this time of year.
“The Kitscoty RCMP donated some winter jackets, clothing, and personal items to SPARK Foundation’s Emergency Women’s Shelter, the Lloydminster Interval Home,” said SPARK’s CEO Angela Rooks-Trotzuk. “We’re always happy to be thought of and appreciate when people want to share their resources with us. This time of year, things are starting to cool off. People in the community are in need, and this helps us provide services for those in need.”
This partnership demonstrates the RCMP’s commitment to community support beyond law enforcement. The RCMP thanks the Town of Kitscoty for helping transport the donations.
They hope the charities can better support clients through the challenges of winter and in seeking employment, creating a lasting positive impact in Lloydminster and surrounding areas.
