The 46th annual Lloydminster Exhibition Stockade Round-Up has come and gone again this year. It drew breeders, ranchers, and livestock enthusiasts from across the Midwest.
The event was held at the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds. It served as a prime opportunity for cattle producers to showcase their breeding stock, network, and participate in competitive events.
Chairman, Gord King, highlighted the event’s significance for the local cattle industry.
“It’s a great way for producers to market their animals and genetics,” said King, explaining commercial breeders attend to explore new options for enhancing their herds. Additionally, King mentioned this year’s event boasts around 389 cattle.
“We’ve introduced new ideas to make it more engaging for exhibitors and spectators,” stated King.
The Stockade Round-Up also featured a series of events, such as the Supreme Show, which celebrates the highest quality cattle. Meanwhile, the Cattleman of the Year Award was won by Drayson Jones and his wife, Pat, from Paradise Valley. It honours exceptional contributions to the cattle industry.
The event has a strong focus on youth involvement, offering scholarships and opportunities for young participants to showcase their skills and farms. Meanwhile, the new Junior Show, for competitors aged 16-21, offered a chance to earn scholarships totalling $16,000, helping to support the next generation of cattle breeders.
Judge Owen Lardon remarked on the importance of these shows for the industry. He praised the exhibitors’ dedication to the craft.
“These guys put a lot of effort into bringing these animals out,” he said, emphasizing how events like this help keep the industry robust despite economic challenges.
