On Nov. 19, the Lloydminster Public School Division presents "Star Birth/Death." They invite the community to embark on a virtual journey through the cosmos.
This presentation is led by University of Alberta Ph.D. students Joshua Peltonen and Margaret Ridder. They will explore their entire lifecycle, from formation to dramatic conclusions.
The event will occur at the College Park School's theatre, with presenters appearing remotely on the screen. Transitioning seamlessly between science and storytelling, the presentation aims to unravel the mysteries of stellar lifecycles. Meanwhile, participants will learn how stars are born, what fuels their radiant lives, and the processes leading to their cosmic deaths. Additionally, both seasoned stargazers and the new astronomer will take information away from the session.
Afterward, weather permitting, attendees can participate in a telescope viewing session at the College Park School Observatory. It will offer an exciting opportunity to observe the night sky firsthand.
The presenters bring expertise and enthusiasm to the event. Peltonen who's been using the James Webb Space Telescope to study star formation, has been passionate about astronomy since childhood. Ridder, a fourth-year Ph.D. student, focuses on interacting binary stars and their dynamic behaviour. They hope this presentation helps make astronomy both inspiring and accessible for all.
Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
