George Edward Hougham

George Edward Hougham, beloved father of Marta, Victoria and Toni, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023.
George was born in Hanford, CA, on May 16, 1931. He served in the US Navy for four years, stationed in Sunnyvale, CA and Honolulu, HI, and obtained accreditation as a social worker at UC Davis. He moved to Canada with his wife, Marlene, and young family, to help on his father’s cattle ranch near Frenchman’s Butte and on the site of historic Fort Pitt.
George spent most of his life in Lloydminster as a social worker and addictions therapist. He served as the director of the Lloydminster Native Friendship Centre and Walter A. (Slim) Thorpe Recovery Centre. In these roles, he helped countless people and their families. He was also a master cabinet maker, builder, rancher, cowboy, and a good friend of Lloydminster original Mike Red Iron.
George is survived by his daughters, Marta McLaughlin (Wayne) of Osoyoos, BC, Victoria Vienna (Robert Mann) of Kingston, NY, and Toni Vienna (John Brussa) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Zac Gross (Theresa Minutillo), Gable Gross (Ashley), Zoe Mann, and Aliza Aldana (Chris); great-grandchildren, Gabriela Gross, Bracken Gross, Greyson Gross, and Veronica Aldana; and nephews, Gavin Hougham and Gareth Hougham. George is also survived by his wife Georgia’s children and grandchildren, with whom he shared many happy years. George was predeceased by his parents, Zita and R.H. Hougham, brother Robert Hougham, infant son George, his wife Georgia McConnell Hougham, and the mother of his children, Marlene Vienna.
