Good morning, Lloydminster, and happy Friday, Aug. 2 to you all! Here's a look at yesterday's news and today's know.
It's looking like a beautiful day for a round of golf or a day at the beach, but let's be real ... this is the weather we're talking about, I could be completely wrong!
According to Environment Canada, Lloydminster is expected to see clear skies in the morning with 20 km/h winds to the north. The high is 25°C with a UV index of seven or higher.
They're calling for a clear evening then partly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight.
There is, however, a risk of a thunderstorm overnight with 20 km/h winds from the north lightening up throughout the evening. The low tonight is 12°C.
Yesterday wasn't an overly eventful news day after Wednesday's early-morning kitchen fire at Spiro's. Luckily, that story had a happy ending as the community and emergency crews work to get the family restaurant back into operation as soon as possible.
Wednesday also saw an update from the Public Health Agency of Canada, which showed one Listeria case out of 18 in the country is in Alberta. If you drink plant-based milk, check those product codes!
In other news, a recent wind storm brought a tree down causing damage to a Lloydminster resident's home and vehicle. Insurance wouldn't pay to have the tree removed, so the home owner took to social media and asked for help. Lloyd being Lloyd, it wasn't long before a crew of volunteers had the tree cleared.
If you're looking for something to do this weekend, don't forget the City of Lloydminster is hosting its annual Heritage Day celebrations at Weaver Heritage Park on Monday, Aug. 5. The pancake breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. and goes until 10 a.m. when activities kick off.
Sandy Beach's August Summer Market is this Sunday, and if you've never been, I highly recommend checking it out.
On top of a ton of local vendors, there's a 50/50 draw, a kid's zone with a craft area and bouncy houses from The Tent Guys, and more.
The Golden Horse Casino stage starts at 11 a.m. with a great lineup of musicians scheduled for the day. There will also be a variety of food vendors to choose from, so bring your appetite!
Fun Facts for Aug. 2
Our neighbours to the south say today is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day and National Colouring Book Day.
I'm on board with both and might have to do some colouring while devouring an ice cream sandwich, or two!
There have also been memorable moments throughout history on Aug. 2, including these few fun facts ...
