LPSD doubles down celebrating

Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) is still celebrating days after a good showing at the provincial golf tournament in Goodsoil and taking part in a unique moose camp at Onion Lake.

After winning golf gold at the Districts, LPSD golfers Graydon Moore, Nathan Osman, Carson Mazzei wound up 6th at the provincials in Goodsoil Saskatchewan last weekend.

Before that, 80 students from E.S. Laird Middle School, Bishop Lloyd Middle School and Lloydminster Comprehensive High School headed out to a three-day cultural moose camp held in Onion Lake territory.

The unique event was make possible by a $20,000 donation from Cenovus Energy to support LPSD on its journey toward Truth and Reconciliation in land-based learning.

Some of the funds were used to purchase the tents used in the cultural camp.

“We are grateful to Cenovus Energy for their generous support, which is providing our students with an invaluable opportunity to engage in land-based learning and cultural experiences that will stay with them for a lifetime,” said superintendent of curriculum and instruction Trisha Rawlake.

At the camp, students were guided by local hunters to harvest a moose as part of the land-based experience.

During the camp, the students engaged in various land-based and cultural activities and stayed in tents and tipis.
