Alberta MLAs Shane Getson, Chantelle de Jonge, and Chelsae Petrovic are heading to Anchorage, Alaska, to strengthen ties with U.S. officials and industry leaders.
The trip aims to fast-track bilateral cooperation, focusing on economic corridors and supply chains across the Pacific Northwest. Getson is eager to work with Pacific NorthWest Economic Region members on multiple fronts, impacting the two trading partners.
"With Alberta as the gateway to the north, we have the opportunity to build an economy of connections, which will create a brighter future with many mutual benefits and enhanced opportunities for the region," explained Getson.
The MLAs will stress the province's role as a partner of choice in responsible energy development and emissions reduction.
“The United States is Alberta's most important friend, ally and trading partner, and this forum provides an excellent platform to strengthen those critical relationships with state legislators," said de Jong. "Alberta’s energy industry plays a vital role in supporting American national security, and we can continue to build on this strategic partnership."
This collaboration is deemed crucial for the Smith Government. It will mean expanding energy infrastructure and delivering more provincially-made energy products to the U.S.
The trip builds on discussions from the 33rd Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Annual Summit in Whistler, B.C., where over 600 delegates from both countries gathered.
"I am excited to speak to Alberta’s role in supporting North American energy independence and security, creating jobs, and driving industry growth on both sides of the border," expressed Petrovic."I’m also excited to share about Alberta’s vibrant tourism industry and how it strengthens our cross-border relationship, welcoming visitors from all over to experience our unique landscapes, culture and heritage."Â
While in Alaska, the MLAs will attend the 45th Annual Alaska Resources Conference, hosted by the Resource Development Council. This event will focus on promoting responsible resource development. Petrovic emphasized, "Together, our energy and tourism sectors showcase Alberta’s contributions to a thriving North American partnership."
This trip reflects Alberta’s commitment to fostering closer ties with the U.S. and advancing shared economic goals. It highlights Alberta as a reliable partner in energy, environmental stewardship, and regional growth.
