A new accreditation program at Lakeland College aims to teach sheep and goat producers best practices for grazing forages.
The Vegetation Management Accreditation program is a partnership between Lakeland College, the Alberta Lamb Producers and the Alberta goat association with funding from Alberta Environment and Parks Rangeland Sustainability program.
Alberta is ranked third in Canada for sheep and lamb inventories. The new program looks to give producers more resources and provide herd managers and producers with details they need to graze sheep or goats and maintain forage health succesfully.
The program will include modules on grazing principles, grazing tame and native forages, stockmanship and animal welfare, building a business plan and unique grazing.
Currently the finishing touches are being put on the course and is being promoted for a 2025 launch.
