A short session of the new Saskatchewan government will begin in a week.
Premier Scott Moe confirmed the first session of the province's new Legislative Assembly will begin on Nov. 25. The announcement comes four weeks after the recent provincial election.
“The new Legislature provides an opportunity for a new beginning,” said Moe. “We won’t waste any time getting to work on residents’ priorities.”
The fall sitting is scheduled to last two weeks. Legislators will debate and pass the Throne Speech and introduce key bills. During the brief session, the Premier will outline a commitment to fulfilling campaign promises.
In the recent provincial election, Moe’s Saskatchewan Party secured a majority government with 34 seats. Meanwhile, The New Democratic Party, led by Carla Beck, won 27 seats, maintaining their role as the official opposition.
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to govern for all residents, regardless of who they voted for,” Moe said. “Saskatchewan people can expect to see specific goals driving improvements in health care and education.”
Monday’s session will begin with the election of a new Speaker. However, the Lieutenant Governor will deliver the Throne Speech in the afternoon, outlining the government’s legislative agenda.
Moe also emphasized the importance of addressing economic growth and affordability.
“We’ll implement the measures we’ve committed to, ensuring Saskatchewan’s economy remains strong and sustainable,”
The Throne Speech will highlight the government’s campaign priorities, including initiatives for education, health care, and cost-of-living relief. Officials believe this agenda reflects the mandate given by voters.
“The people of Saskatchewan voted for a strong economy and change,” Moe concluded. “We are determined to deliver both.”
