Smith educates Trump on trade deficit

A recent Truth Social post from incoming United States of America President Donald Trump garnered an official response from Alberta Premiere Danielle Smith Dec. 18.

Trump’s post requested an answer to why their country “subsidizes” Canada to the tune of “100,000,000”. Additionally, he re-iterated his thoughts on Canada becoming the “51st state.”

Smith responded on her official X (formally twitter) account regarding the post.

“The reason for this is because Canada (especially Alberta) sends billions of raw materials (oil, gas, minerals, grain, livestock, timber, etc) to your U.S. refineries and factories,” answered Smith. “Which your great American companies and workers upgrade and sell around the world, including back to Canada.

Additionally, she noted millions of American jobs and trillions in profit come from their sale of processed Canadian raw materials. She also reminded him we are their largest customer for those goods. Meanwhile, she also reminded him that Alberta alone provides 4.8 billion barrels of oil stateside.

As a conservative Premier in Canada, I believe we have 2 of the greatest countries on earth. We have fought and bled together in many wars, and built an incredible alliance and partnership,” said Smith. “I really hope we can strengthen that partnership throughout your Presidency by securing our shared border as you’ve requested and partnering to protect our North American workers from unfair Chinese trade practices.”

She believes both sides of the border will benefit from taking those steps.

Smith intends to be at the inauguration of Trump on Jan. 20 in Washington D.C.
