ASIRT investigating Tofield RCMP shooting

An RCMP operation in rural Beaver County, Alta. ended in tragedy on Dec. 23.

At approximately 12:10 p.m., Tofield RCMP officers arrived at a home to arrest a man wanted on outstanding warrants.

Officers quickly secured the area and alerted nearby residents to ensure their safety. Additionally, Tofield RCMP called the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team from Edmonton to assist with the operation.

“Unfortunately, during the interaction the male was fatally injured,” stated the RCMP press release. “Life saving measures were immediately attempted but were unsuccessful and he succumbed to his injuries on scene. No other members of the public or RCMP officers were injured.”

The police immediately informed the Director of Law Enforcement about the incident, as required by law. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team will conduct an independent investigation into the events.

The RCMP pledge to fully cooperate with ASIRT and recognize incidents like this are hard on everyone involved.
