LPSD reacts to changeroom policy

The Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) says it’s prepared to create a new Saskatchewan government-mandated changeroom policy.

The Government of Saskatchewan is requiring all school divisions to create and share policies on changeroom use by June 30. According to the province’s recent announcement, these policies must ensure students’ privacy, dignity, and comfort.

“We want to ensure privacy, dignity and comfort of all students,” education minister Everett Hindley said. He emphasized the importance of keeping parents informed about steps taken to ensure safety.

School divisions will create the policies with parents, guardians, and students. The goal is to develop rules that reflect local needs and values.

“The organization must post these policies online and communicate them to the public for transparency.”

Chrissy Gee, board chair for Lloydminster Public School Division, said the division already has rules focused on privacy and respect.

“The LPSD Board of Education is committed to creating and maintaining safe, inclusive, and respectful environments for all students,” Gee said. “Division Administration and the Board of Education will review the government’s directive and work thoughtfully with our school community, staff, and stakeholders to build upon these procedures.”

Boards of Education actively respond to their communities as elected representatives while following the province’s expectations. Additionally, local voices will be monitored by the Ministry of Education to make sure they are heard.
