The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has charged a 35-year-old resident of Kehewin Cree Nation with second degree murder.
On Feb. 13, RCMP arrested and charged Johnathan Bezanson, who was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 18 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Bonnyville.
Earlier that day, Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to Kehewin Cree Nation and located a deceased female outside a residence with suspicious injuries. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit were deployed and took carriage of the investigation.
Over the course of an extensive investigation, a suspect was identified in connection to the death of Ricci Youngchief, a 35-year-old resident of Kehewin Cree Nation.
The autopsy of Youngchief is scheduled for Feb. 17 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.
