Suspect named in home invasion after court appearence

Bonnyville RCMP arrested Douglas John, 28, on Feb. 19 after a home invasion involving a firearm on Feb. 16.

On Feb. 16 at approximately 6:49p.m., Bonnyville RCMP responded to a home invasion at a residence located in Kehewin Cree Nation. The incident led to a shelter-in-place order.

After facing 39 charges, John will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

John, a resident of Kehewin, faces the following charges:

  • Theft under $5,000 x4
  • Break and enter with intent x2
  • Mischief under $5,000 x2
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm x5
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order x4
  • Resist peace officer
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Failure to comply with a probation order x5
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Occupy motor vehicle with firearm x3
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Possession of property obtained by crime x5
  • Trespass at night

John was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. His last court appearance was on Feb. 18 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Bonnyville.
