The Do More Agriculture Foundation, which supports rural mental health education, has opened applications for the 2025 community fund.
The fund, presented by Farm Credit Canada (FCC), helps communities across Canada foster mental health conversations. Applications are being accepted until March 2.
“FCC’s steadfast and bold commitment to support rural community action for mental health is inspiring,” said Dr. Merle Massie, executive director of The Do More Agriculture Foundation.
Massie said communities consistently report these workshops leave them with “New skills and a better understanding of how to support our peers.”
Meanwhile, last year, 140 communities applied for funding, highlighting the need for mental health resources.
“Mental health supports are a critical component in building strong and resilient rural communities,” said Justine Hendricks, FCC president and CEO.
“Providing tools, education and support that foster mental health and resilience go a long way in a farm’s success.”
Workshops include Talk Ask Listen, SafeTALK suicide prevention, and Mental Health First Aid training. Additionally, the Field of Mind men’s mental health support sessions will expand in 2025.
Do More Ag is also working to address barriers to participation.
“Communities say that shame and fear can stop people from signing up,” said Massie. “We are building additional resources to help reach a wide variety of people.”
The fund welcomes applications from agriculture groups, small businesses, local governments, and more.
