Impaired driver injures Lloyd RCMP member

A Lloydminster RCMP officer suffered minor injuries after a collision involving an impaired driver on July 4.

As a result, Larissa Berland, 36, of Frog Lake, faces multiple charges.

Police claim a vehicle crossed the centre line at 50 Ave. and 48 St. at about 11:30 p.m., causing the collision with a marked cruiser before fleeing the scene on foot. The officer was conducting routine patrols at the time.

RCMP members arrested her shortly thereafter with the assistance of witnesses.

Berland faces charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle, operation while impaired and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

Berland was released with conditions after an initial hearing. She is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on July 22.

The officer involved was treated in hospital for minor injuries and later released.

“We would like to personally extend our gratitude to members of the public who stopped to assist our officer immediately following the crash,” said the Lloydminster RCMP’s Cpl. Byford.

“Your quick actions and willingness to remain on scene to provide witness statements greatly assisted our investigation and ensured the safety of everyone involved.”
