The province joined the Canada Strong Pass on July 4, which offers free general admission to all visitors under 17 until Sept. 2. Young adults aged 18 to 24 also get half-price entry.
“This summer, general admission to all Alberta museums and historic sites will be free for children and teens aged 17 and under and half-price for young adults aged 18-24,” said the province in a release.
The offer applies to all Albertans and out-of-province visitors. No special pass is needed and discounts apply automatically.
Fort George and Buckingham House is one of 13 provincial sites offering free admission. Guests there can try boat building and learn about Alberta’s fur trade past.
Free access meant to grow tourism
“Our government is excited to support more people in creating unforgettable memories in every corner of the province,” said Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women. “Supporting increased access to our sites will drive more economic activity throughout the province, while sharing our unique history and culture.”
Visitors can also explore popular spots like the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller and the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton. This year, many sites are marking special events or adding new exhibits.
“In 2025, the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre has the honour of celebrating 40 years of welcoming visitors,” said Myriah Sagrafena, facilities supervisor. “The Canada Strong Pass will provide young families with a cost-effective way to experience the power of nature.”
The program is part of a wider national effort to boost local tourism.
“We’re pleased that Alberta has joined the Canada Strong Pass initiative,” said Steven Guilbeault, federal Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture.
“Families can now enjoy discounted access to more than fifty provincial and territorial museums this summer – in addition to all national ones.”
