KELOWNA — Mounties in British Columbia say several people were injured after a boat crash that resulted in a powerboat being lodged on top of another on Okanagan Lake near Kelowna.

A statement from West Kelowna RCMP says several passengers on one of the vessels sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated by BC Emergency Health Services.

Police say they’ve confirmed impairment and weather conditions were not factors in the collision and the matter remains under investigation

It happened at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday, about 500 metres south of the William R. Bennett Bridge.

A statement from Central Okanagan Search and Rescue says it was initially unknown if any people were in the water but police were able to determine that everyone was accounted for.

The statement says the Kelowna Fire Department removed the damaged vessels from the area.
