Chatsworth Farm welcomed hundreds of visitors during Alberta Open Farm Days on Aug. 16 outside of Vermilion. Visitors arrived from Edmonton and beyond to get a behind the scenes experience at the farm.

“It’s been going really well,” said Charlotte Wasylik. “We’ve had, I don’t know how many people come through, but it’s been very busy from the start until now.”

Families filled the field parking lots and lined up for wagon rides to the event. Once on-site, they could tour the farm, interact with animals, watch various demonstrations and buy products.

The farm also offered cooking demos, live music and food cooked from animals raised on-site.

Edmonton visitor Emma Tennison said her family appreciated the chance to connect with the farm.

“It’s important to see where our food comes from,” she said. “Our little guy loves tractors and animals, and it’s great for him to learn about the animals and how the farm works.”

Wasylik hoped everyone walked away achieving the one goal she set.

“Just enjoy being here at the farm,” Wasylik said. “Enjoy getting the moments of connection, whether it’s eating a hot dog that was from an animal that we raised. Trying out some of the cooking demos. Just experiencing everything.”

The day offers a rare glimpse into rural life and gives Wasylik a chance to share agricultural insight with the masses.
