Innisfail RCMP arrest copper wire thieves

Two Red Deer, Alta., residents were arrested after getting caught with more than 100 pounds of stolen copper wire.

The Innisfail Fire Department located two men burning copper wire on Aug. 28 near the Highway 54 bridge. When the RCMP arrived, the men attempted to leave the area in a truck but were stopped by police.

During a search of the vehicle, police located and seized 187 pounds of stripped copper wire and break and enter tools in the back of the truck.

Douglas MacQuarrie, 49, was charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property;
  • Unlawful burning of hazardous material
  • Possession of break and entering tools
  • Failing to comply with release conditions

Tristan Foley, 29, was charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property;
  • Unlawful burning of hazardous material

MacQuarrie was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on Sept. 10.

Foley was released by a justice of the peace and is also scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on Sept. 10.
