Nakota Rayne Pooyak of Sweetgrass First Nation is headed for pre-trial on Jan. 26, 2026.
The Meridian Source previously reported Pooyak was set for sentencing, which is not the case.
Clarification on Sept. 22, 2025 revealed the wrong information was shared by officials.
All parties involved apologize for the miscommunication and any confusion it may have caused.
BACKGROUND
Pooyak, 31, remains in custody. He was charged with three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Brent Peters, 66, and his sons Matthew, 32, and Brennan, 34, in September 2024.
The victims were found dead at their northeast Lloydminster home in what RCMP described as a targeted attack.
Police arrested Pooyak in January 2025 and described the investigation as complex and ongoing, involving multiple units and witnesses. Officials have not disclosed the motive and no additional charges have been laid.
