Local hockey programs benefit from Esso Cup funds

Local hockey is benefiting from $79,000 in funding thanks to the 2025 Esso Cup.

The host committee announced $79,000 in legacy funding on Sept. 22 and four clubs will be splitting the funding.

Lloyd Female Elite hockey received $20,000, Lakeland College Rustlers Hockey $15,000, PWM U18AAA Steelers $15,000 and Lloyd Minor Hockey $29.5K.

For the Steelers and Rustlers, the money will support a dressing room at the Cenovus Energy Hub.

Funding will also support female post-secondary player scholarships, grassroots female hockey programming, player/coach development, female referee development, female hockey tournament expenses and elite hockey development.

The Esso Cup was hosted in Lloydminster from April 20 to the 25 and saw U18 women’s teams gather in the Border City to play at the Centennial Civic Centre.
