Donations in memory of Graham may be made to Charity of choice. Graham Brown will be remembered as a man who loved his family, friends and his community. Graham grew up in Cut Knife after coming to Canada from England with his family when he was three years old. He always talked about adventures growing up with his brothers and sisters with fondness and a mischievous glint in his eyes. Graham met the love of his life, Joan Shortell when he was 19 years old and they just recently celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary. They moved to Lloydminster in 1976 to be part the family business, Broadcast Centre. Alongside Mary Shortell and his brother-in-law, Ken Ruptash, they built up CKSA/CITL TV and Radio Station to be an integral part of the Lloydminster Community, realizing a dream of its founder, Arthur Shortell. Graham retired in his 50s and he and Joan were able to spend their leisure time travelling to Palm Springs and hanging out with family and friends at Turtle Lake. He also enjoyed getting to know his son-in-laws and welcomed them warmly into the family. Over the years Graham was involved in many community groups. He was a past president of Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce, member of Lakeland College Advisory Group, Lloydminster Economic Development Authority and Lion’s Club. His most recent community involvement project, and maybe his most passionate, was being president of the Lloydminster Concerned Citizens for Senior Care Society which led to receiving the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta) in 2023. Everything Graham did for the community was to make it better for his children and grandchildren. Graham loved to spend time with his family. Raising two daughters with Joan meant he was often doing many girl centred activities, but he was happy to be spending time with them, regardless of what they were doing. As a husband and father, without annoyance or feeing inconvenienced, he was ready to drop what he was doing anytime, any place to help his girls. When his grandchildren came along it was the same story – it did not matter what they wanted him to do – build Lego towers, play with cars or dolls, put pretend makeup on him or crawl into a playhouse that was way too small – there was a sense he would not want to be anywhere else but in that moment enjoying their smiles and joy. When Graham was in his late 40’s he decided it was time to fulfill his dream of riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle. He got so much joy out of the Wednesday night rides with the Lloydminster HOG chapter and helping them with Charity events such as the HOG Toy Run. Cheers, with a Rye & Coke, to Graham and a life well lived, filled with love of family, friends and service to others. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. Card of Thanks: The Brown family would like to thank all those who showed their support.
