Lakeland College is set to host its Research for the Ranch: Livestock Field Day on Oct. 30 in Vermilion.

Research projects involving precision ranching, cattle nutrition and livestock wellness will be on display at the Vermilion campus.

The event is a chance for students, fellow researchers, livestock producers and industry representatives to learn about the research being conducted by Lakeland’s applied research team.

“Our research team focuses on advancing real-world agricultural productivity and sustainability in the crop and livestock sectors,” said Francois Paradis, dean of Applied Research at Lakeland. “Our projects are geared towards making a measurable impact on the daily lives and work of ag producers, and ensuring they have easy access to the information we gather is a critical part of that. That’s what we do at our livestock field day. It’s an opportunity for the ag community to learn about our latest findings, connect with our researchers, and share input on the opportunities and challenges they face. We invite everyone to attend to learn more about this important work.”

The event will showcase Lakeland’s new cannulated black angus heifers. Kyleigh Magotiaux, Lakeland’s applied research social media contact, will lead people through the process of effectively developing and telling a story using social media. Then in the afternoon, attendees will provide feedback about the opportunities and challenges they face and how Lakeland staff can support their goals.

The event is free but the college is asking people to register ahead of time. The program begins at 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 30 at the Agriculture Technology Centre at the Vermilion campus. Check-in for the day begins at 8 a.m.
