MONTRÉAL — Two Montreal public transit unions have reached tentative agreements with their employer, while two others are still without a deal.
The union representing 1,300 administrative and technical employees negotiated a tentative agreement on Sunday with the transit agency, two days after the union for 4,500 bus drivers and metro operators reached a deal.
All eyes are now on the unions for 2,400 maintenance workers and 800 professionals such as engineers and architects.
The maintenance workers had planned to strike between Nov. 2-28 but their union suspended the walkout on Nov. 11 to give more opportunity for negotiations.
Meanwhile, the professionals union recently obtained a 10-day strike mandate but has not yet announced when it will exercise it.
The deal between the Société de transport de Montréal and the bus and metro drivers was reached just hours before a planned strike that would have halted bus and subway service over the weekend.
