The funding aims to strengthen homelessness prevention programs, increase emergency shelter capacity and add more supportive housing options across the province.

“Through the ministries of social services, health, and corrections, policing and public safety, we have invested more than $98 million in homelessness services since the foundational PATH investment was announced in 2023,” said social services minister Terry Jenson.

“This additional investment builds on programs already in place to provide multi-year funding for community-led responses to homelessness, expand emergency shelter capacity and support transitions to supportive housing.”

The province says the new funding will include:

  • $12 million for municipalities to support community-led homelessness strategies through stable, multi-year funding.
  • $4 million to create up to 40 new emergency shelter spaces at existing facilities where demand is high.
  • $4 million to add up to 60 new supportive housing spaces and expand trusteeship services to help individuals maintain stable housing.

The PATH strategy, introduced in 2023 with an initial $40.2-million commitment, has already resulted in new supportive housing, additional shelter beds and expanded safety and outreach services.

The province says ongoing collaboration with Indigenous organizations, municipalities, service providers and the federal government continues to drive progress.

“Our discussions with partners guided these investment priorities, focusing on services showing real progress and positive impact,” Jenson said. “We look forward to continued collaboration to help people transition to stable housing, remain successfully housed, and build a better quality of life.”
