MONTREAL — Quebec Liberal Leader Pablo Rodriguez is struggling to contain a crisis that has some questioning his ability to lead a provincial government.

Rodriguez gave a combative performance during an appearance on a popular Quebec talk show Sunday night where he insisted he will “fight to the death” for his party.

But he faced questions about his ability to manage crises should he become Quebec premier given his handling of the turmoil that has rocked the party since last week.

He said he still hasn’t spoken with Quebec Liberal Marwah Rizqy, whom he suspended from caucus last week, about her reasons for firing her chief of staff.

Rizqy said in a statement just before Rodriguez’s appearance on Radio-Canada’s “Tout le monde en parle” that she wasn’t pursuing any political agenda.

Rodriguez also challenged the Journal de Montréal to prove the legitimacy of text messages it published last week suggesting some party members who voted for him during the leadership race could have received cash rewards.
