The sale, held Dec. 2, attracted 89 bids for leases and exploration licences across all four provincial bidding regions — Estevan, Lloydminster, Kindersley and Swift Current. In total, companies bid on 17,875.984 hectares, generating $7,484,935.82 for the province.

The Estevan area led the offering with $3.69 million in revenue from two exploration licences and 43 leases covering 3,502.081 hectares. The region also recorded both the highest overall bid and the highest per-hectare price. Whitecap Resources Inc. submitted the top bid of $1,047,040.88 — an average of $8,111 per hectare — for a 129.089-hectare lease southeast of Lampman.

Hummingbird Energy Inc. made the highest exploration licence bid, offering $233,000 for a 321.458-hectare parcel east of Radville, also in the Estevan area.

In the Lloydminster region, 29 leases covering 6,797.617 hectares brought in $1.89 million. Scout Energy Ltd. led the area with a $777,861.13 bid for a 775.264-hectare parcel southeast of St. Walburg.

The Swift Current and Kindersley regions each generated just under $1 million — $947,848.83 and $958,005.80 respectively.

This was the fifth land sale of the fiscal year, bringing total revenue to $60.2 million. The sixth and final offering is scheduled for February 3, 2026, and will include 98 leases and two exploration licences covering 19,371.299 hectares.

Leases offer five-year terms for drilling and production, while exploration licences run two to five years in less developed areas. Public offering activity can fluctuate based on commodity prices, land availability, geological considerations and broader market conditions.

More information is available on the province’s Schedule of Public Offerings webpage.
