Saskatchewan RCMP seize drugs and loaded rifle near Frenchman Butte

Saskatchewan RCMP has charged a Saskatoon woman after seizing cocaine, methamphetamine and a loaded rifle from a vehicle that attempted to evade police.

On Dec. 5, at about 3 p.m., officers from Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan spotted a speeding vehicle near Frenchman Butte and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and eventually slid into a ditch. Two individuals fled on foot into nearby trees.

Police quickly contained the area and called in Saskatchewan RCMP police dog services. A 24-year-old woman, later identified as Shania Heathen of Saskatoon, was arrested without incident. The second suspect has not been located.

A subsequent search revealed a loaded rifle hidden in the trees and a vehicle containing:

  • Approximately 44 grams of crack/cocaine
  • Approximately 65 grams of methamphetamine
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia

It was also determined the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Heathen faces multiple charges, including:

  • Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Resisting or obstructing a peace officer
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (over and under $5,000)
  • Multiple counts of firearms possession contrary to court order

She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 11, 2025.

Turtleford RCMP and Onion Lake RCMP assisted in the investigation. Police are continuing efforts to locate the second suspect and urge anyone with information to contact Turtleford RCMP at 310-RCMP.
