The province’s economy created 15,200 jobs last year, while the annual unemployment rate stood at 5.2 per cent — well below the national average of 6.8 per cent. Saskatchewan was the only province to record a decline in its unemployment rate compared with 2024.

Statistics Canada figures show Saskatchewan reached record highs in several labour market measures in 2025, including 510,600 people in full-time employment and 617,400 people employed overall. The province’s labour force totalled 651,200.

Saskatchewan posted the highest employment rate among provinces at 63.9 per cent and the second-highest labour force participation rate at 67.4 per cent.

Employment also increased in the province’s two largest cities. Compared with 2024, employment in Saskatoon rose by 4,000, an increase of two per cent, while Regina recorded a gain of 6,500 jobs, up 4.5 per cent.

Health care and social assistance led job gains by industry, adding 9,000 positions year over year. Construction employment increased by 5,000, while agriculture added 1,600 jobs.

The province also ranked first among provinces for growth in urban housing starts from January to November 2025, and second for the value of building permits and new motor vehicle sales from January to October.

Immigration and Career Training Minister Eric Schmalz attributed the results to industry activity and labour demand, saying the government aims to maintain job growth into 2026.

Statistics Canada releases labour force data monthly, based on a national survey of households.
