Have you signed up for the Meridian Source newsletter?
At the Source, we’ve been working on new and innovative ways to deliver the news to you, the reader. In addition to our weekly print edition and daily online updates at meridiansource.ca, we decided to launch a newsletter.
All the major players do it, and we thought it was a great way to expand our horizons.
The newsletter is a simple email featuring our top local stories, delivered straight to your inbox every couple of days.
Our website has had a sign-up pop-up for a couple of months now, and with more than 700 registered email addresses, it appears to be something you’ve been wanting.
The first newsletter was sent out Jan. 13 and included a handful of local news, feature and sports stories, made possible through sponsorship from Novlan Bros Ford in Paradise Hill.
Each newsletter will be brought to you by one of our many amazing advertising partners. We can’t thank them enough for their continued support. Plus, getting more eyes on locally owned and operated businesses — like the Source — never hurts.
As mentioned in last week’s column, it’s a new year. Everyone at the Source is excited to see what 2026 will bring after a successful 2025.
We’ll be trying more new things this year to improve the user experience for the community — including our readers and advertising partners.
Some might argue newspapers are a dying breed, but the number of people who tell me how much they enjoy what our team produces each week would suggest otherwise. I regularly have people quote my columns and show interest in what’s happening in my life.
That tells me a couple of things — mainly, people are picking up the paper and reading it.
We don’t do this job for the paycheque. We do it because we love it. To quote my first Border City boss and longtime Meridian Booster editor Dana Smith: “We’re not lighting cigars with $100 bills. We’re in the business because we love doing it.”
In addition to the regular newsletter, the paper will soon include full-page features spanning a variety of topics of interest to local readers. Our website continues to publish locally produced content, along with national and international news from The Canadian Press and The Associated Press.
We’re diving in with both feet in 2026, and we’re happy to have you along for the ride.
Be sure to check upcoming editions of the Source for new features, and sign up for our newsletter to stay in the know.
See you all next week!
