Alberta’s 2026 provincial budget will be released Thursday, Feb. 26, the government says, as the province faces weaker resource revenues and ongoing economic uncertainty.

The government says the fiscal plan will reflect a more difficult financial environment following a year marked by lower-than-expected oil prices, continued global uncertainty and trade tensions. Population growth and rising demand for public services are also putting pressure on provincial finances.

Finance Minister Nate Horner said the budget will focus on managing fiscal pressures while maintaining stability.

“Albertans know these times aren’t easy and the path ahead will require tough choices,” Horner said in a statement. “We are making responsible decisions now to protect the province’s financial future.”

The government says Budget 2026 will emphasize disciplined spending and revenue generation to protect essential services and keep Alberta operating within its means during a period of significant fiscal pressure.

The government says it used public engagement to inform the budget. More than 16,500 submissions were received through an online survey between November 2025 and January 2026. More than 22,000 people also participated in a telephone town hall on Dec. 9 to ask questions and raise concerns directly with the finance minister.

Legislation requires the province to table its budget before the end of February each year.

The government is expected to release more details on spending priorities, revenue projections and any changes to taxes or programs when it tables the budget later this month.
