Wainwright RCMP has charged two people after seizing drugs and a firearm from a residence in the community.
Police say proactive patrols in December 2025 identified a high level of pedestrian traffic and frequent vehicle activity — including vehicles suspected to be stolen — at a Wainwright home. The activity was consistent with drug trafficking, prompting further investigation and a search warrant.
Officers executed the warrant Feb. 5 and seized 23 grams of fentanyl, 22 grams of cocaine, nine grams of methamphetamine, a variety of prescription narcotics and other prescription medication, drug paraphernalia consistent with trafficking, and one firearm.
Shane Comerford, 46, and Megan Atwood, 40, both of Wainwright, are each charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Comerford is also charged with breach of a firearms prohibition order.
Both accused were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody. They are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Wainwright on Feb. 19, 2026.
“Thanks to the diligent work of Wainwright RCMP members, we were able to raid a drug house within our community,” said Sgt. Micheal Miller, detachment commander.
“Homes such as this are burdens on a community and are often associated with stolen property and weapons. We will continue our efforts to spot these criminal hotspots and encourage the public to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers if they see any suspicious activity.”
