Additional officers blocked the highway to keep the public safe. Tire deflation devices were deployed twice; the semi initially ran over the first device and continued, then hit a second device, causing the tires to begin disintegrating. The truck ultimately left the road and stopped.
RCMP, with support from Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services, contained the vehicle. An adult male exited and was arrested without incident.
Adam Cole, 38, of Camrose, Alta., faces four charges: operation while prohibited, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime. He appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 19.
“Our officers worked quickly to ensure other drivers stayed a safe distance from a dangerous situation,” said Insp. Ryan How, Battlefords RCMP detachment commander.
“A stolen semi travelling at high speeds on a highway is incredibly risky for everyone involved. The leadership, communication, and tactics used by our officers reflect their commitment to keeping our communities safe.”
