The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) announced the sudden passing of local leader and retired Regional Fire Chief Brian McEvoy.

BRFA says his impact on the organization was immeasurable.

“He helped shape our organization, championed collaboration and professionalism and remained deeply committed to public service even after transitioning from the role of Regional Fire Chief to Town of Bonnyville Councillor and serving as a valued member of the BRFA Board,” BRFA said in a statement.

The Town of Bonnyville says McEvoy, who was serving his third term as councillor, will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

“It is with heavy hearts that Mayor and council share the passing of our colleague, Brian McEvoy,” the town said in a Facebook post. “Brian was more than a dedicated public servant. He was a dear friend, mentor, peer, and colleague around the council table and throughout our community.”

McEvoy moved to Bonnyville in 1996. He was first elected to council in 2017 and re-elected in 2021 and 2025. In 2022, he received the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee medal for his contribution to the fire service and the province.
