The falling rain was an excellent backdrop for the Lloydminster and District Co-op's newest investment on the city's south end. The facility features more than just the prominent car wash.
Peter Brown, Lloydminster and District Co-op CEO, cut the ribbon on the new facility.
"This is an exciting day for your Co-op to celebrate. I'm in awe daily of what this community accomplishes and how community members in Lloydminster support its businesses," said Brown.
Brown said the new facility responds to members' requests for a place to purchase wine, beer, and spirits.
Coun. Michael Diachuk brought greetings and a message from the city.
"It's a great day. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts at the city, you are an amazing partner for the city," said Diachuk. "The Southview liquor store and car/pet wash is a fantastic addition."
Co-Op gives back
Additionally, the CO-OP donated one dollar from each car wash for the first six weeks of operation to Lloydminster Rescue Squad as a celebration of their opening. During the opening ceremonies, they presented LRS Chief Norm Namur with a cheque worth $8,868.
"It's a shock, we didn't expect this much... we are grateful for that money it helps us out in such a tremendous way," said Namur. "We can now go after a purchase a boat motor that makes your boat stationary and keeps you in the exact location once you program it to keep you there."
The motor, a Minn-Kota produced by Johnson Outdoors, was originally designed for fishing. The motor will help LRS during wind and waves instead of dropping anchor. As a result, some of the more technical missions will be made easier.
Brown said giving back is part of what has helped them strive for 110 years. Giving back while opening their newest facility was just another part of that.
"We want to continue to live our values and give back to the community, it's very important for us to be able to do that," added Brown. "It's part of our core values."
The facility features a tasting station, 900 sq. ft. walk-in cooler, and cigar humidor. On the third floor, there is also a four-season tasting room and event centre.
This newest facility is located at 1209A 50 Ave, Lloydminster, Sask. and is open to the public.
