The Lloydminster RCMP made an arrest as a man was attempting to steal a motorcycle on Sept. 18.
During the incident, the individual provided a false name, attempted to flee, resisted arrest and tried to disarm the officer of their service pistol. An ensuing investigation revealed Robert Jeffery Johnson, 46, had also committed crimes in the neighbouring town of Kitscoty.
Additionally, between Sept. 6 and 12, the Kitscoty RCMP received multiple complaints regarding a suspicious male driving a newer model white truck. Thieves broke into a residential garage and a commercial property, stealing several items, including an ATV.
Meanwhile, on Sept. 14, the suspect returned to the property and was confronted by the business owner. The owner was then assaulted before the suspect left.
On Sept. 24, Kitscoty RCMP recovered an enclosed trailer stolen from Lloydminster. The trailer contained the aforementioned stolen ATV and various tools.
“On behalf of Kitscoty RCMP and Lloydminster RCMP, I would like to thank the public for their ongoing involvement in reporting these occurrences to police,” said lead investigator Const. Daniel Brown. “This, combined with information sharing between detachments, was crucial to solving these crimes.”
As a result of these investigations, Johnson faces the following charges.
- Non-compliance with a probation order x2
- Break and enter to a dwelling house
- Theft over $5000
- Theft under $5000
- Assaulting a peace officer
