As a precaution, Cenovus Energy currently only has essential personnel at the Christina Lake oil sands asset.

The company began shutting in production on May 29.

“Cenovus is focused on the safety of its people and the integrity of its assets. All staff are safe,” the company said in a statement.

Cenovus says they are not aware of any damage to its infrastructure and expect a full restart in the near term.

Approximately 238,000 barrels per day of production have been impacted and the company will provide an update when it is in a position to restart.
