Vermilion RCMP has cancelled the shelter in place order after apprehending the suspect seen with a long-barrel firearm.
Original – 8:33 p.m.
Vermilion RCMP issued a shelter in place at 8:19 p.m. on Aug. 23 after a suspect was seen fleeing a scene carrying a long-barrel firearm.

The shelter in place encompasses 51A St. and 50 St. and 47 Ave. to 43 Ave.

Mounties urged residents to stay indoors and lock their doors.
They also asked the public not to post photos of officers on social media.
“We understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, but rest assured, your Alberta RCMP is working tirelessly to locate the suspect,” RCMP said in a release.
Police asked residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity to Vermilion RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
