EDMONTON — Ripple effects of the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in the United States continue to be felt across Canada.

The University of Alberta says it has temporarily put a law professor on non-disciplinary leave, as it looks into online comments and threats surrounding comments on the shooting of Kirk earlier this month.
The university in Edmonton says in a statement the professor will be on leave during the review but declined to identify the person or provide details on the comments and threats.
Last Thursday, the University of Toronto said it put a professor on leave after she made concerning comments on Kirk’s killing.
Vigils for Kirk have been held in some Canadian cities.
James Turk, director of the Centre for Free Expression at Toronto Metropolitan University, says even though Kirk was a polarizing figure, he resonated with some Canadians and it’s important for community leaders to encourage unity.
