Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding made the proclamation on Nov. 26, noting Saskatchewan now ranks second in Canada for manufacturing productivity.

“Saskatchewan has the strongest economy in Canada, which is due, in no small part, to the role played by our manufacturing sector,” Kaeding said, adding manufacturers provide high-paying jobs, support economic diversification and produce goods shipped around the world.

According to the province, Saskatchewan has surpassed its growth plan target for manufacturing exports for the third consecutive year. International exports from the sector totalled $11.5 billion in 2024 — the second-highest on record.

Capital investment is also rising. Investment in the manufacturing sector reached a record $1.08 billion this year, up 9.7 per cent from 2023, and is projected to climb another 52.3 per cent in 2025.

“Manufacturing is a key driver of Saskatchewan’s economy — creating good jobs, fostering innovation and strengthening communities,” said Jillian Einarson, head of policy and government relations for Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, Prairies.

“Manufacturing Week is an opportunity to celebrate the sector’s vital contributions and the collaboration that ensures its continued resiliency and competitiveness.”

Several events were planned throughout the week, including Manuquest on Nov. 26, hosted by the Saskatoon Industry Education Council to introduce high school students to manufacturing career paths. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters also hosted a panel discussion and workshop on tariffs on Nov. 27.

The province says it continues to support the sector through initiatives such as the annual Saskatchewan Aerospace and Defence Forum, which connects local manufacturers with defence contractors. The next forum is scheduled for March 11, 2026.

Manufacturing activity contributed to Saskatchewan’s real GDP reaching a record $83.6 billion in 2024, a 3.1 per cent increase over the previous year — the second-highest growth rate among provinces.
