From Dec. 1 to 7, RCMP traffic services, municipal combined traffic services Saskatchewan (CTSS), and local detachments conducted province-wide check-stops and targeted patrols as part of National Safe Driving Week and National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day (Dec. 6).

Officers stopped 4,446 vehicles and issued 1,161 citations, including:

  • 930 for speeding or aggressive driving
  • 126 for distracted driving
  • 105 for failing to wear a seatbelt

Of the 106 drivers removed for impairment:

  • 24 faced criminal charges for alcohol-related impaired driving
  • 2 faced criminal charges for drug-related impaired driving
  • 34 received driver’s licence suspensions for recent alcohol consumption
  • 46 received suspensions for recent drug use

“Impaired driving continues to be a serious concern in Saskatchewan. In 2025, impairment contributed to 30 per cent of fatal collisions. We will continue testing drivers to keep roads safe,” said Insp. Lee Knelsen, operations officer of Saskatchewan RCMP traffic services. “This holiday season, plan ahead — never drive after drinking or using drugs.”

RCMP remind residents to use designated drivers, ride-sharing, or public transit to ensure safe travel during celebrations.
