TeleMiracle Week began Feb. 22, leading up to the golden anniversary broadcast Feb. 28 to March 1.
“Year after year, Saskatchewan people show their generosity through TeleMiracle,” said Eric Schmalz, the minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission. He said residents continue to donate their time, talent and money to support those in need.
To mark the milestone, organizers have extended the telethon by two hours. TeleMiracle 50 will begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28 and conclude at 5 p.m. on March 1, for a total of 22 hours. The event will air on CTV Saskatchewan channels and stream online.
Danika Dinko, executive director of the Kinsmen Foundation, said the additional time moves the broadcast further into prime time and allows organizers to showcase Saskatchewan talent while celebrating five decades of memories.
Since its launch, the Saskatchewan-based telethon has raised more than $171 million to support medical travel and specialized equipment for residents across the province.
TeleMiracle chair Tammy Blackwell said this year’s live broadcast will feature Saskatchewan performers, anniversary tributes and new elements recognizing the event’s legacy. Organizers are also inviting the public to attend in person.
Under The Recognition of Telemiracle Week Act, TeleMiracle Week is held annually in the week leading up to the telethon and is overseen by the minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission.
Local Kinsmen and Kinette club members will be in attendance and are looking forward to sharing their experiences with the Meridian Source upon their return to the Border City after the event.
