Multi-vehicle collision prompts highway warning near Kitscoty

Earlier this morning, Kitscoty RCMP advised motorists to avoid travel along a stretch of Highway 16 after a multi-vehicle collision west of the community Tuesday.

RCMP say officers responded to a crash in the westbound lanes near Range Road 40A in Vermilion River County at approximately 9 a.m.

Police say a tanker truck, a semi-truck and several other vehicles were involved. The extent of injuries is not immediately known.

Motorists are being asked to take alternate routes to allow emergency crews to respond safely. RCMP is also warning of poor driving conditions in the area and advising drivers to adjust to weather and road conditions if travel is necessary.

Drivers are encouraged to check Alberta’s 511 service for the latest information on road conditions, closures and detours.

RCMP say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
