The funding, delivered through eHealth Saskatchewan, will launch a fully integrated digital system designed to replace manual processes and connect anesthesia data directly with the provincial surgical suite. Officials say the move will create a more complete digital patient record while improving safety and efficiency.

Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said the technological upgrade is a key part of the province’s strategy to improve patient outcomes and attract new medical talent.

“This new system will assist in the recruitment and retention of anesthesiologists and other specialists who want to work with the most modern and efficient tools,” Cockrill said in a news release.

The initiative follows specific requests from Saskatchewan anesthesiologists for software that reduces the administrative burden of clinical documentation. By automating these records, the province hopes to allow specialists to focus more on direct patient care.

Dr. Tim Rosser, an anesthesiologist with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, welcomed the investment, noting that the tool delivers patient-specific information exactly when and where it is needed.

“The new system enables more time and attention for safe, patient-centered care,” Rosser said.

Implementation Timeline

The province has awarded a two-year contract to Picis Clinical Solutions, Inc. to manage the rollout. The project will include:

  • A phased launch: Beginning in Fall 2026.
  • Full integration: Connecting anesthesia management with existing operating room systems.
  • Maintenance: The $5-million investment covers both the initial implementation and ongoing annual costs.

The government maintains that the digital shift will optimize hospital resources by enhancing collaboration among surgical care teams across the province.
