The provincial government released its 2026-27 Anglers Guide April 1, debuting a mandatory Angling Habitat Certificate designed to support fisheries enhancement and protection through the Fish and Wildlife Development Fund.

Under the new regulations, annual angling licences now require a $20 certificate. Short-term licences for one or three days will include a $5 certificate fee.

Environment Minister Darlene Rowden said the change aligns fishing with the province’s existing conservation funding model for hunting.

“This year’s guide highlights the new Angling Habitat Certificate, which will support important fisheries programs and help protect the quality of Saskatchewan’s fishing opportunities for future generations,” Rowden said in a statement.

Anglers who already hold a valid Wildlife Habitat Certificate for hunting in the same year will not be required to purchase a second certificate for fishing.

The digital guide, which covers catch limits and invasive species prevention, is available for download now. Physical copies are expected to arrive at government and retail outlets in early May.

Key Season Dates

Fishing season start dates remain staggered across the province’s three management zones:

  • Southern Zone: May 5
  • Central Zone: May 15
  • Northern Zone: May 25

The province also announced two free fishing weekends where licences are not required: July 11-12 and Feb. 12-14, 2027. These weekends do not apply to national parks and all standard possession limits remain in effect.

Licensing exemptions continue for youth under 16 and seniors over 65. Anglers can find more information or purchase licences at saskatchewan.ca/fishing.
