A north end industrial park staple is celebrating a major milestone this weekend while lending a helping hand — and paw — to local animal rescues.
Puppy Luv Paradise, located at 5201 62 St., will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a community fundraiser on Saturday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event, billed as “a decade of pet care,” aims to raise money for several local organizations, including Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS), Border Paws Animal Shelter, Canine Action Project and the Lloydminster Rescue Squad.

“It is our 10th anniversary here in this building,” said organizer Donté Munro, noting owner Nicky Towner has been busy renovating the space in preparation for the celebration. “We’re hoping for a really, really good event.”
The celebration features a mix of indoor and outdoor activities designed for both humans and their four-legged friends:
- Charity BBQ: For $10 a plate, attendees can grab a burger or a hot dog — including “chilli cheese dogs” — served with salad, a drink, and cake. All BBQ proceeds will benefit SCARS.
- Pet Services: Walk-in nail trims will be available with donations going to the SPCA, while a dedicated pet photo room will raise funds for the Canine Action Project.
- Demonstrations: Staff will showcase their expertise with live grooming and training demonstrations throughout the afternoon.
- Raffles: Visitors can try their luck with a liquor basket and various local gift baskets donated by community partners.

Beyond the festivities, the event serves as a critical food drive and awareness campaign for local rescues.
Munro emphasized the “dire need” for foster homes in the Lloydminster area, particularly for SCARS, which takes in roughly 600 cats a year from the region and works closely with animal control in Onion Lake.
“For SCARS, we are in very dire need of some fosters here in our local area,” said Munro. “They are a no-kill shelter, focused mostly on just having fosters that way, then the animal doesn’t have to be in a kennel. Animals are in a home and being worked with.”
Munro noted that the rescue ensures all animals are “vetted immediately,” including being neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and de-wormed before they go to their forever homes.
Representatives from Border Paws Animal Shelter and the Canine Action Project will also be highlighted during the event, with indoor proceeds and donations directed toward their operations. Residents are encouraged to bring pet food donations and “fetch their pups” for an afternoon of dog-friendly fun.
